Saving seed from one growing season to the next can save you even more money on getting your garden started in the spring. Harvesting seed from your sweet corn is one of the easiest seed-saving processes in the garden. It is a great activity in which to involve children, providing them the opportunity to experience the changing seasons in the garden as well as to contribute to their family's food supply. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Pick the corn that will serve as your seed corn four to six weeks after the corn reaches its eating stage, or when the husks turn brown.

2. Pull back the husks on the cobs that will serve as seed corn.

3. Place the corn in a cool, dry location to finish drying

4. When the corn is completely dried, grip the dried ears in your hand and twist to allow the seeds to be released into a bucket.

5. Winnow out any remaining chaff and silk that is among your seed.

6. Place your seed in a paper bag and store in the bottom of the fridge until you are ready to plant.
