Make Hard Candy Out Of Sugar

Hard candy

Making your own hard candy out of sugar can be a fun and creative project for the whole family. Teach your children the joys of cooking, while experimenting with the many flavoring and color options of homemade organic candy. With so many creative candy mold options you can make holiday themed old fashioned candy, or homemade lollipops. Making hard candy only takes a few ingredients and a little time. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. In a medium pot on the stove, mix the sugar, corn syrup and water. Continue to stir over medium heat until thick syrup has formed.

2. Place a candy thermometer into the pot and allow the mixture to boil.

3. Remove the pot from the heat when the temperature reaches 300 degrees F.

4. Resume stirring until the mixture has stopped bubbling.

5. Add candy flavoring and stir well. For some old fashioned candy flavors try peppermint, butterscotch, and sassafras, or experiment for your own unique brand of hard candy flavor.

6. Add food coloring and mix quickly.

7. Pour the liquid sugar into flexible candy molds and allow them to cool for at least 1 hour. For lollipops be sure to insert the lollipop stick into the candy mold before the hard candy has time to cool and harden.
