Design A Crab Cake

Make a cake shaped like a red crab.

When you think of a crab cake, you likely envision a fried cake made with crabmeat and vegetables. But you can make a sweeter crab cake by baking a cake and shaping it so that it looks like a crab. A crab-shaped cake is a good option for a beach party, a crab boil or for someone who works in the seafood industry. Making a crab cake is simpler than you might think. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Use a serrated knife to cut your 9-inch round cake and shape it into an oval. This cake will serve as the crab shell for your crab cake.

2. Place your oval cake onto the center of a large cake platter.

3. Frost the cake using red icing.

4. Remove your two miniature cupcakes from their cupcake liners. Frost them using white icing. Frost the sides of the cupcakes as well as the tops.

5. Place the two miniature cupcakes side-by-side at the top center of your crab cake.

6. Place a chocolate chip on the center of the top of each cupcake to create the crab's eyes.

7. Position eight extra-thick red licorice ropes for the crab's legs. Place four on each side, pushing an end into the side of the cake.
