Make Tofu Seasoning

Tofu is made from soybeans and resembles a block of soft cheese. It has very little flavor of its own and will absorb the flavors from the food it is being cooked with. In many recipes, you can season or marinate the tofu before cooking to give it the flavor that you desire.

Making tofu seasonings is simple; you can use plain soy sauce or combine a number of herbs and spices to create just the taste you want. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

Italian Sausage Seasoning

1. Mix together 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes, 2 tsp. each of dried oregano and garlic powder, 1 tbsp. crushed fennel seed, 1/2 tsp. black pepper and 1 tsp. of grated Parmesan cheese in a small bowl.

2. Drain the tofu and wrap with paper towels to draw out additional moisture. Let sit for 10 minutes.

3. Combine the seasoning mix with 3 tbsp. of olive oil in a shallow bowl. Stir to blend thoroughly.

4. Slice the tofu into 1/2-inch slices. Place the slices into the seasoning mix, turning to coat the slices completely.

5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the tofu marinate 3 to 4 hours or overnight.

6. Fry the seasoned tofu over low heat in several tablespoons of olive oil until browned.

9. Toss the cubes in the seasoning mix in the bowl.
