Smoked turkey
is a balanced smokey and spiced dish
If you have a smoker, smoked turkey can offer a good change from classic oven roasted turkey for the holidays or for a large group meal. Smoked turkey can have a barbecue flavor or a unique spiced flavor, depending on your tastes. Before you cook the turkey, it is essential to rub on the spices and seasoning so that the flavors will bake into the meat. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Fill the smoker's water pan 1/3 full with apple juice and water. Preheat the slow cooker to 240 F.
2. Pour garlic, seasoned salt, Cajun seasoning and lemon pepper in a medium-sized bowl and mix the ingredients together.
3. Place turkey in the aluminum roasting pan and rub the ingredients in the bowl over the outside of the turkey with your hands.
4. Fill the inside of the turkey with the butter, cola, apple, onion, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
5. Cook the turkey in the smoker for about six and a half hours, basting the turkey in its seasoned juices every one to two hours.
