Can You Have Dairy on the Daniel Fast?
The Daniel Fast is a three-week fast based on a passage in the Bible. Participants can have only vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds, oils and water.
Vegan
The Daniel Fast follows vegan ideas. The participant may eat all the vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, whole grains and beans she desires, but she may not have meat or dairy of any kind.
Bread
No leavened bread is allowed. Rice cakes, corn chips and flat breads are OK. If you buy bread during the fast, check the label for dairy and yeast ingredients, since neither is allowed.
Sugar
No sweeteners, including sugar, honey and sugar alternatives, are permitted.
Prepared Foods
You are allowed to eat prepared food, but since preservatives are not allowed, make sure the prepared food does not include preservatives or ingredients not allowed during the fast.
Water
Participants are encouraged to drink plenty of water. It is the only allowed beverage. You may add lemon for taste.
