Use Yogurt To Lose Weight

Adding yogurt to your diet may help you speed up weight loss.

Yogurt is a good source of calcium and protein, plus the friendly bacteria in yogurt improves the health of the digestive tract and boosts the immune system. Yogurt also can help you lose weight. One cup of plain, nonfat yogurt has approximately 110 calories. Lose weight by using plain, nonfat yogurt instead of cheese, butter, cream, sour cream and ice cream. A 2005 study found that participants who added yogurt to their diet were able to speed up their weight loss efforts. Keep a large container of plain, nonfat yogurt in your refrigerator, and use it instead of a high calorie ingredient. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Top your baked potato with plain, nonfat yogurt and diced green onions or chives. Use the yogurt instead of butter or sour cream.

2. Add a large dollop of plain, nonfat yogurt atop your chili or tacos, followed by a spoonful of spicy salsa. Do this instead of adding shredded cheddar cheese.

3. Mix a cup of frozen blueberries with a cup of plain, nonfat yogurt, and then stir in a cup of Cheerios and a few diced walnuts. Stir, and eat as a filling breakfast instead of cereal, milk and flavored yogurt.

4. Freeze yogurt in ice cube trays. Add the frozen cubes to a blender instead of ice cream, along with fresh fruit to make a fruit and dairy smoothie. While the active cultures in yogurt will be halted during the freezing, the drink will still be lower in calories than ice cream and offer nutritional benefits.

5. Use plain, nonfat yogurt instead of cream to make creamy sauces and toss with pasta. Season with garlic and some Parmesan cheese.
