2. Put on your safety goggles and gloves.
3. Pour the water into your pot. Slowly and carefully, pour the lye into the water. Be careful not to splash it or inhale the fumes. Lye is extremely corrosive, so exercise caution when using this chemical. The lye and water produce a chemical reaction which creates heat.
4. Place your thermometer into the lye mixture and allow it to cool to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
5. Pour your hemp oil into your other large pot and put it onto the stove. Heat to a temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Add the warm lye mixture to the warm oil slowly and carefully. Once added, stir the mixture vigorously.
7. Stir the oil mixture continuously until tracing occurs. Tracing is thin ribbons of solidified soap that will appear more opaque than the rest of the mixture. It may take up to an hour of stirring for traces to appear.
8. Prepare your soap molds by setting them out next to your pot. Pour the soap into your molds and store in a dark, cool place.
9. Allow the soap to set for at least three days. After the setting time, pop the soaps out of the molds and allow to cure for another four to six weeks. They're ready for use after this time.
