Make Chocolatedipped Spoons

Chocolate-dipped spoons go especially well with a tin of hot-cocoa mix as a Christmas gift.

Chocolate-dipped spoons are fun to create and make great gifts for coffee and hot-chocolate lovers. The spoons are dipped in hot drinks to infuse them with extra flavor. Try different kinds of chocolate and flavor extracts (available in the candy-making section of many craft stores) to make a variety of different spoons. If desired, add crushed peppermint or other candies to the spoons while the chocolate is still wet for an extra bit of sweetness. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Bring a large pot of water to a simmer and place a large glass or metal mixing bowl on top. Place the chocolate in the bowl and allow it to melt, stirring frequently.

2. Once the chocolate is completely melted, remove the mixing bowl from the heat and add one or two drops of flavor extract or oil. Let the chocolate cool slightly.

3. Dip the spoons into the melted chocolate from the tip of the spoon to partway up the handle. Hold the spoon over the bowl to allow excess chocolate to drip off. Lay the spoons on the baking sheet with the concave part of the spoon (where food would go if you were using the spoon to eat) facing down. If desired, sprinkle crushed candies on the chocolate portion of the spoon before the chocolate has hardened.

4. Once the chocolate has hardened, wrap the chocolate-dipped part in cellophane or place it in a small cellophane bag. Tie the cellophane with decorative ribbon or raffia.
