Store Wheat Grain

Store your wheat grain properly to preserve its freshness for years to come.


It is important to properly store wheat grain so that it will retain its freshness over time. Proper storage will also keep insects out of your wheat grain as well. Buying wheat grain in bulk is a cost-effective choice that allows you to be prepared in case of an emergency, as well as reduces the amount of money you spend at the grocery store.


Instructions


1. Fill a new five gallon bucket with wheat grain until it is almost completely full, then place a folded paper bag over the top of the grain.


2. Place a quarter pound of dry ice on top of the paper bag, then seal the lid on the container. Press the lid down gently to remove any excess air while sealing it. When the dry ice evaporates completely, open the container, remove the paper bag, then replace the lid securely. The fumes from the dry ice will destroy any living organisms, such as insect eggs.


3. Place the containers in a freezer to destroy any living insects that may be in the wheat grain. Remove the grain once it has completely frozen.


4. Place the container in a non-humid location with a temperature of 45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 days, then refreeze it. Place the buckets on top of a piece of wood if you decide to store them in a garage, in order to keep them from making contact with the ground. Avoid storing the containers near bright lights as well.
