Disinfect With Lemon Juice

Lemons help to disinfect and leave a fresh scent in the bathroom.

Lemons contain a strong acid and have disinfectant properties. Purdue University reported that in a test of commercial and natural cleaners' effectiveness in reducing microbial contamination, lemon and borax rated as intermediate in effectiveness in cleaning bathroom soil. In addition to disinfection, using lemon as a cleaner provides a fresh scent in your home and helps to remove stains from some surfaces. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create a paste with 1/2 cup of baking soda and the juice from one lemon in a plastic tub. Mix in 1 tablespoon borax to help remove odors and increase the disinfectant power of your homemade cleaner. The baking soda and borax give the cleaner a scrubbing powder texture.

2. Apply the cleaning paste to the bathroom counter and sink. Remove stains, soap scum or discolorations by scrubbing them with the paste.

3. Polish the sink and chrome or metal fixtures with undiluted lemon juice on a microfiber cloth.

4. Clean bathtubs, shower walls and glass doors with fresh lemon juice mixed with baking soda. To remove hard water stains from glass doors and fixtures, apply undiluted lemon juice and leave it on for 10 minutes.

5. Juice half a lemon and mix in 1 tablespoon of borax in a plastic tub to create a disinfecting toilet cleaner.

6. Apply the lemon juice and borax cleaner with a toilet brush after flushing the toilet, when the water level sinks.

7. Apply the lemon cleaner under the toilet rim. Drop the rest of the borax and lemon mixture in the toilet bowl water and allow the toilet to soak for 20 minutes.

8. Scrub the toilet again and flush.
