Making stuffing to put in a turkey or serve as a side dish.
You can buy a bag or box of stuffing, but it's easy to make it from scratch at home. Whether you want to stuff a turkey or chicken or serve the stuffing as a side dish, you can flavor your stuffing to suit your tastes and the occasion. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Put the stick of butter, the celery that you thinly sliced and the onion that you finely chopped into a skillet. Cook until they become tender. Remove the celery and onions from the heat and allow them to cool.
2. Break up the loaf and a half of bread into bite-sized pieces into a large bowl. Add the ground sage and mix it with the bread to distribute it throughout.
3. Add in the butter, onions and celery mixture. Add salt and pepper. Add in one egg at a time and mix with your hands. Add the second egg and mix again.
4. If the stuffing stays together after you mix in the eggs, you will not need to add any water. If not, then add a few drops of water and mix again. Add a little at a time until it holds together.
5. Loosely stuff the cavity of the turkey or chicken so the stuffing has room to expand as it cooks. Roast your meat according to directions, allowing more time for a stuffed bird than one that is not stuffed.
6. If cooking the stuffing by itself, place it in a casserole or pan and cover it with foil. Cook it for 30 minutes or until it is heated through. If you are worried about the stuffing drying out, add a bit of water or butter before heating.
