Make Cucumber Soap

Handmade cucumber soap can be soothing on the skin.

Cucumbers can help relieve redness and swelling in the skin. Cucumbers can be beneficial when used in a soap form to deeply cleanse the body. You can purchase cucumber soaps at many health food or natural foods stores, but they can often be costly. An alternative is to make your own handmade cucumber soap using cucumber juice and natural oils that are gentle on the skin.

Instructions

1. Pour 16 oz. of coconut oil, 16 oz. of palm oil and 16 oz. olive oil into a pot. Heat the pot with the oils over medium heat.

2. Put on gloves and protective goggles.

3. Combine 16 oz. of water and 8 oz. of lye in the glass beaker.

4. Place a glass candy thermometer into the lye water. Put a second glass candy thermometer into the pot with the oils. When both thermometers reach 110 degrees Fahrenheit, the contents of the two containers can be combined.

5. Pour the lye water into the pot with the oils.

6. Pour 4 oz. of cucumber juice and 1 tsp. of cucumber essential oil into the mixture.

7. Stir the soap mixture for 30 minutes until it thickens into a pudding-like consistency.

8. Pour the soap mixture into the soap molds. Place the molds into a cool, dark room for seven weeks.

9. Pop the cucumber soaps out of the molds, then use them.
