Restaurants For Brunch In Portland Or

Brunch in Portland, OR

Portland is Oregon's largest city, with a vibrant scene of students, artists, outdoorsman and alternative types. There are many restaurants scattered throughout the city, serving a variety of cuisines from across the world. Many of these restaurants either specialize in or offer brunch menus to enjoy on lazy mornings.

The Original

The Original is a restaurant that was inspired by the diners and supper clubs of the 1950's and 60's. These, according to the restaurant's website, were social hubs of the time, and The Original tries to be Portland's modern day version of that. It serves eclectic American cuisine using traditional French techniques. The brunch menu's "griddles" section offers four different types of pancakes (buttermilk, blueberry, fruit loops, and mac n' cheese), Belgian waffles, and creme brulee French toast. Specialties include egg benedict, chicken fried steak, and a breakfast burrtito. A variety of burgers are also brunch items, as are a selection of omelets and a tofu scramble. Milkshakes, floats, and housemade sodas give the menu an even more "authentic" feel.

Chez Joly

Chez Joly is one of Portland's youngest French bistros, and they are open on Sunday solely to serve brunch. Meals at this time include both French and classic brunch cuisine. Some of these items include a house omelet, vegetable scramble, saumon fume (lox and bagel), steak and eggs, breakfast and brunch crepes, nicoise salad, and a farmer's breakfast (two eggs, roasted potatoes, wheat toast, and ham, bacon, or sausage). Bloody mary's and mimosas are just two drinks available throughout brunch. There is also a Kir Royale (sparkling wine and Chambord) and two coffee drinks: one with brandy and one with Kahlua.

West Cafe

Proprietors Doug Smith and Sean Concannon opened West Caf in July 2006. They hoped to create a neighborhood gathering place and since it opened the restaurant has grown roots in the area between Portland's Cultural District and Portland State University. At night, it is known for its live jazz shows. Sundays are reserved for brunch. Starters include bagels, scones, and fresh fruit plates. Breakfast entrees include egg sandwiches, custom omelets and skillet scrambles, oatmeal pancakes, waffles, and French toast. There are also a number of salads, such as papaya and shrimp, lamb salad, and fresh roasted turkey cobb. In addition to all of this, there are entrees that are more like lunch: BBQ pork sandwiches, fish tacos, Cajun shrimp salad wraps, and grilled meatloaf. Orange, pineapple, and grapefruit juices are also available alongside mimosas and bloody mary's.
