Famous Grill Chefs

Famous grill chefs are known for their barbecue and culinary abilities to cook over fire.

Grilling meats, fish and veggies on an open flame brings to mind summer cookouts and outdoor block parties. While most anyone can barbecue on a grill, a handful of chefs have set themselves apart in the grilling field. Bobby Flay, Mike Mills, Larry Gerber and Steve Raichlen are some of the most famous grill chefs in America. Their talents range from grilling barbecue, hosting television shows about grilling, authoring books and guides on grilling, and running successful restaurants. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Bobby Flay

With a number of restaurants to his name in New York City, Las Vegas and the Bahamas, Bobby Flay has spread his signature southwest grill style to several satisfied foodies. Flay has garnered awards over his career including the "Best Restaurant 1992" award for Mesa Grill in New York by New York Magazine's Gael Greene, "Outstanding Graduate Award" at the French Culinary Institute in 1993, and the James Beard Foundation's "Rising Star Chef of the Year" in 1993. He has also written several cookbooks and hosts television shows including "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" and "Boy Meets Grill."

Mike Mills

Since 1985, Mike Mills has owned and operated the 17th Street Bar and Grill in Murfreesboro, Illinois. Featuring recipes honed on worldwide barbecue competition circuits, as well as his family's famous barbecue sauce, Mills, known as "The Legend," and his Apple City BBQ team serve barbecue sandwiches, ribs and smoked meats at their restaurant. His celebrity, earned through appearances in magazines, television shows and books, has won him acclaim from celebrities and presidents alike. Mills is the only barbecue chef to have been given a top secret security clearance, allowing him to have served Bill Clinton and Barack Obama aboard Air Force One.

Larry Gerber

Larry Gerber, known to his fans as Que, operates BarBeQue Man, Inc., which produces barbecue sauces, marinades, rubs, and a barbecue catering service. He has been featured on the ABC Daybreak News Team and several other radio and television shows, displaying his barbecue talents and products. Gerber is the food editor of Skunk Magazine and the host of the television program, "Culinary Adventures."

Steve Raichlen

Author of "The Barbecue Bible," Steve Raichlen has devoted his life to teaching ordinary people the art of the barbecue. He founded and still operates the Barbecue University in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is also featured on the PBS show of the same name. Among his accomplishments, Raichlen defeated Iron Chef Roksbura Michiba in a barbecue battle on Japanese television, won five James Beard awards, and boasts a designation of the "#1 Barbecue Experience in the U.S." for his Barbecue University by the Food Network in 2000.
