1. Determine your income. According to the NCCP website, a family of three whose gross income does not exceed $21,588 per year may apply for food stamps. Additionally, a family of three whose net income does not exceed $16,608 per year may also apply for food stamps.
2. Evaluate your assets. Your assets may include your home and other personal property. If the value of your assets exceeds $2,000, you will not qualify for food stamps.
3. Consider your immigration status. If you are a legal citizen of the United States, this is nothing to worry about. However, the NCCP website states that adult lawful permanent residents are not applicable to food stamps in Wyoming for the first five years of their residency.
4. Apply for food stamps. According to the Social Security website, you can apply for food stamps at any local Social Security office. The website features a useful tool for locating your nearest office, as well as operating hours. You will need a photo ID, such as a driver's license, pay stubs, proof of child care payment, if applicable, utility bills, rent or mortgage receipts and medical bills if you are over the age of 60.
