Stop Rabbits From Eating Your Plants

Ensure that your plants remain healthy by stopping rabbits from eating them.

Controlling rabbits in your garden can become frustrating. Rabbits often hide out in tall grassy areas and they will stay in areas where they know they can feed off plants and vegetables. If rabbits are constantly eating and destroying your plants, you can deter them without spending a lot of money. Once the rabbits realize that they can no longer feed from your plants, they will find a new location to nest. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Set up a 2-foot tall fence made from chicken wire around your garden. Find chicken wire at garden supply stores. Bury the wire 2 inches into the soil so that the rabbits cannot dig holes and burrow underneath.

2. Remove any tall vegetation from the area. Keep at least 20 feet of open distance between the fence and the outdoor plants. Tall grass and bushy shrubs are often locations where rabbits like to head. Prune these down with shears or remove them from your yard completely.

3. Plant flowers that the rabbits will avoid like amaryllis, impatiens and ferns. These will keep rabbits away only when the rabbit population is low and when the plants are mature, according to Rutgers University.

4. Purchase a rabbit deterrent spray when all else fails. Purchase these at most outdoor and hunting stores. Spraying the plants will keep the rabbits away because they do not like the taste or smell.
