The consecration of oil is a sacred ordinance performed by Melchizedek Priesthood holders in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It's preparatory for the ordinances that follow, anointing with the oil and sealing the anointing. One or more Priesthood holders must consecrate olive oil before it's used to bless the sick or the afflicted. The ordinance is short, not too complicated and involves five steps.
Instructions
1. Select a good grade of pure olive oil. Hold the open container of olive oil.
2. Address our Heavenly Father. Start the ordinance by saying "Father in Heaven" or "Heavenly Father."
3. State that you are acting by the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood. Say "By the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood that I hold," or use a close variation.
4. Consecrate the oil, not the container, and dedicate it for anointing and blessing the sick and afflicted. Say "I consecrate this oil and dedicate it for the anointing and blessing the sick and afflicted," or use a close variation.
5. Close in the name of Jesus Christ. End the ordinance by saying "In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
