Wine storage cubes are sideways boxes used to store wine for long periods of time. Just taking crates and turning them on the side will usually make good wine storage cubes, but bisecting them with a board is better. It will hold the wine more securely, make the boxes more stable, and create a more attractive wine rack. Follow these steps to create a storage unit for your wine collection. Instructions
1. Get several plastic crates. Often, you can find these lying around on the street, or behind your local grocery store. Try to get them all in the same size, if possible.
2. Make sure that the plastic crates are large enough for a bottle to fit inside comfortably. If they aren't, go find some bigger ones.
3. Turn one plastic storage crate on its side. The open end should be facing horizontal, towards you.
4. Measure the distance diagonally across one of the plastic crates. Stretch a tape measure from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. Try to get the measurement as accurate as possible.
5. Measure how deep the plastic crates are. Measure along one of the edges from the open end to the bottom of the crate.
6. Cut out a rectangular piece of wood to bisect the plastic storage cube. Make one side equal to the length of the diagonal of the crate, and the other side equal to its depth.
7. Stick the piece of wood inside the crate. It should bisect it diagonally. Secure it in with a little bit of craft glue.
