Sell Home Baked Products In Florida

Sell Home Baked Products in Florida

Pies, cakes, cookies and breads are a staple in the American diet and people will come from near and far to get quality baked food items. However, before you decide to sell your home baked goods in Florida, there a few things to consider.

Instructions

Make A Plan

1. The first thing you should do is check with your local officials to see if a license is required to sell baked goods in Florida. Then you must decide if you will open a bakery or if you will simply sell your baked goods at a local flea market. Another thing you should decide is this: do you plan to cater to special occasions or sell kosher items? Kosher items are a big hit especially, on the East coast of Florida.

2. Determine if you will be able to keep up with the demand after your business takes off. You might have to enlist help from family members or you might want to consider hiring extra help. If you plan to offer items such as wedding cakes, birthday cakes and other specialty items, you will need to market them to the public either with signage or by placing an ad in a local newspaper. Pictures of your work are essential, especially for wedding and birthday cakes. Keep a photo album on hand so that clients can see what you can do for them.

3. Keep a running list of all of the items you use on a regular basis --- you never want to run out of common ingredients like flour, sugar, eggs and oil. Set aside at least one day per week to inventory all items and make a run to your local food store to stock up.

4. Keep track of your sales as well as your overhead expenses: You will need to report the income to the IRS at tax time. Good record keeping is essential when running a business.
