Tofu adapts well to the taste of your marinade or seasonings.
Tofu is a food that is popular with vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike because of the high amount of protein it provides and because it contains no saturated fat or cholesterol. Tofu is made from soybean curds and has a moist texture and bland flavor. You can find it in health food stores as well as most major grocery store chains. If you are a vegetarian and miss eating chicken or want the taste and texture of it at your next meal, you can satisfy your carnivorous craving by preparing tofu to mimic your favorite chicken dish. Instructions
1. Select tofu marked "extra firm." This texture has a meat-like consistency. It is denser and chewier than "regular" tofu.
2. Remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a dry towel. Press down firmly, yet gently to remove excess water. Flip the tofu multiple times to eliminate an equal amount of moisture from both sides.
3. Slice the tofu into thin slabs and marinate it with seasonings similar to those you would use with chicken. Because tofu is bland, it fully absorbs the flavor or your seasonings. Use poultry seasoning, curry powder, barbecue sauce or any seasoning that you would use on chicken. Let the tofu to marinate for at least one hour.
4. Cook the tofu until it is firm. Bake it, fry it or broil it the same as you would chicken. The tofu is ready when the edges are slightly toasted, which generally takes about 20 minutes.
