Get Rid Of Your Turkey Neck

Try exercises before considering surgery to get rid of turkey neck.

Stop reading now if you seek advice on discarding leftover turkey parts from your Thanksgiving bird. On the other hand, if your neck is falling faster than the stock market during an economic downturn, don't move. Turkey neck is disconcerting but you're not alone. This development so dismayed writer Nora Ephron, she wrote the book "I Feel Bad About My Neck" in 2008. Various treatments are available and if none are satisfactory, you can also write a book.

Instructions

1. Exercise your neck before trying anything else. Many exercises exist to reduce neck surplus but one you can do on the fly is to put your index finger and thumb on your neck, look straight ahead and tug at the skin 10 times while lifting your head. Another you can try, even while driving, is to push your lower lip up and out to form a pout and tighten the muscle until your skin becomes so taut, you have to release. Finally, rotate your head to the left and right, holding for six to eight seconds with each head turn.

2. Investigate neck liposculpture if exercise doesn't work. Results are excellent; it only takes a couple of hours and recovery time is short. Expect your surgeon to remove the fat along your jaw line and under your chin before suturing up small incisions where the liposuction tube is inserted. This mini-procedure requires a board-certified plastic surgeon and there are risks: If a doctor removes too much fat, the jaw area can become distorted and muscles impaired; thus, you want to approach neck liposculpture with your eyes wide open.

3. Ask your doctor for a prescription for Retin-A skin cream, if you don't mind waiting to see results. Usually prescribed for acne, the use of Retin-A for turkey neck has brought mixed opinions: Some folks swear by it, while others remain undecided. Even the best Retin-A skin creams won't produce the dramatic change achieved with surgery but since it doesn't cost a fortune to try, ask your doctor for .25-strength Retin-A to start. If advertising claims are correct, the cream will boost your skin's collagen production and tighten your neck area. Be patient, because it can take months to see results.

4. Inquire into the benefits of a mini-facelift. Investigate practices like lifestyle lift, whisper lift and clinics promoting these day surgeries. Most surgeons allow patients to remain awake while local anesthesia is administered to the neck and chin area. It takes an hour or two to complete the surgery and no major cutting is involved, save skin on either end of the jaw, which is stitched into place behind the ears. Popular with both men and women, this option isn't as expensive as a full-blown facelift but is not without risks. However, patients undergoing the successful removal of surplus skin are happy to say that driving home from the procedure with nothing waddling beneath their chins made it worth the risk.
