Make Your Own Hypoallergenic Shampoo For Dogs

Natural grooming products can help reduce skin allergies in sensitive dogs.

Most commercial shampoos have dyes and scents that can aggravate skin problems, especially in dogs that may have allergies or sensitive skin. A dog with allergies will scratch excessively, which results in skin rash, dandruff or rough, flaky skin. Using natural grooming products not only keeps skin allergies under control, but is also easy on your wallet. Making hypoallergenic dog shampoo at home gives you the flexibility of varying the ingredients based on your dog's skin condition. Using this type of shampoo maintains the natural pH of the dog's skin and also prevents the skin from drying up. There are many different recipes to make hypoallergenic dog shampoo. However, here is one that is simple and easy.

Instructions

1. Put 16 ounces of a mild dishwashing liquid (scent and additive free), 16 ounces of apple-cider vinegar and 4 ounces of glycerin in a plastic bowl. Mix all the ingredients well and dilute with 16 ounces of water.

2. Wet your dog's coat thoroughly using lukewarm water. Take a little bit of the homemade hypoallergenic shampoo in your palm and apply it gently all over the dog's body, avoiding the face and eyes.

3. Massage the shampoo into the dog's skin and leave it on for five to 10 minutes.

4. Rinse off the shampoo well. Make sure no shampoo is left behind on the coat, as it may dry up the skin and/or cause itching.

5. Store the unused shampoo in an airtight container. This will stay for about four weeks.
