Rosemary Hot Oil Treatments

Due to the stimulating effect of rosemary oil, it has been used widely in hair products. The increased stimulation of blood flow on the scalp encourages healthy hair growth. To mix a hair growth treatment using rosemary oil, mix 1 tsp. wheat germ oil in a bottle, with 2 oz. sweet almond oil, 1/2 oz. avocado oil and 1/2 tsp. lecithin. Add to this 15 to 20 drops of rosemary oil. Let this mixture stand for an hour. Before using, warm the oil mixture by placing the bottle in a bowl of warm water. Massage into your scalp for 10 minutes before rinsing -- do this two times a week.

Rosemary Oil as Mouthwash

Another popular use of rosemary oil is for mouthwash. To make rosemary mouthwash, use one pint of hot water and steep 3 tbsp. of rosemary leaves for 15 minutes. Strain the liquid and refrigerate. You can use this mixture several times a day to fight bad breath. Large quantities of rosemary oil can cause stomach and intestine irritation as well as kidney disorders so do not swallow this mixture.

Rosemary Oil as Anti-Dandruff Treatment

Used in conjunction with other essential oils, rosemary can help fight the effects of dandruff. Mix two drops each of rosemary, tea tree, peppermint and lavender oil with 2 tbsp. of jojoba oil. Massage the mixture into the scalp and either sleep with it on your scalp over night or wrap your head in a warm, moist towel for 30 minutes. Massaging the scalp helps remove dandruff by increasing circulation.

An Additive

Rosemary oil can be added to shampoos and conditioners to improve anti-dandruff properties. The herb can also be added to unscented lotions with peppermint to create a stimulating morning body lotion.
