Make Some Oat Flour

Rolled oats are healthy grains that you can eat as oatmeal or grind into flour for baking recipes.

Oats are healthy grains sold in a several forms that include oat groats, which are whole seeds; rolled oats, often eaten for breakfast; steel-cut oats, which are chopped oat seeds; and instant oats, which are cooked and dried steel-cut oats. One cup of oats contains approximately 26 grams of protein and 16 grams of fiber, which represent more than two-thirds of the government's daily recommended amount. Oats are also low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. Save money and blend oats into flour to use in healthy baking recipes. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Measure 1 cup of rolled oats into a blender of food-processor.

2. Blend the oats on the "pulse" setting until the oats are ground into a powderlike consistency. Depending on the speed and power of your blender, this process should take 60 seconds or less.

3. Stop the blender and stir the flour to ensure that all the oats have been finely ground. One cup of rolled oats will yield approximately 1 cup of oat flour. Your yield may be slightly higher with steel-cut oats, which are larger than rolled oats.
