Lose A Double Chin Without Plastic Surgery

A double chin may be the result of genetics, aging or weight gain. That extra fat deposit below the jaw can be a cosmetic concern for many people. For some, plastic surgery may be one solution to correct this problem. However, it can be very expensive. An alternative is to find ways to either eliminate or minimize the appearance of a double chin naturally. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check out your body posture in a mirror. Make sure you sit and stand with your head held high or tilted slightly forward. Walking or sitting with your neck or chin lowered can accentuate, or focus more attention on, the problem.

2. Get rid of a double chin by losing weight. Having an extra 10 to 15 pounds can cause fatty deposits in this area. Dietary changes that include eating more fiber, fruits, vegetables and low-fat foods can help. Likewise, incorporate an exercise routine to tone your entire body.

3. Do chin exercises to lose the double chin. Chin exercises can also help tone your neck muscles after you lose weight. Sit or stand with your back in a straight position. Bring your lower lip over your top lip and slowly lift your head and chin up toward the ceiling. Hold this position for a count of 10 and return to the starting position. Do at least 10 repetitions of this exercise two times each day. Exercises that target the platysma muscle, which extends from the chest to the neck and chin areas, may be useful for a double chin problem.

4. Try some simple makeup tricks to camouflage the problem. Place face powder or bronzer that is a shade darker than your foundation makeup color along your jaw line to create a shadow effect, or contour, under the chin. Use just enough of the bronzer to achieve the desired effect, but avoid over-contouring and creating a heavy makeup look.

5. Accentuate other facial features to draw focus away from your neck and chin area. Draw attention to your eyes by using neutral tones of eye shadows, eyeliners, and mascara that complement your particular eye color. Keep your eyebrows well-groomed. Make cheeks and lips the focus of attention by using blush or lipstick in flattering colors.

6. Get a new hairstyle. Long hair or pageboy cuts can draw attention to your neck area. Try a hairstyle that ends at or above the jaw line to slim down your chin.

7. Choose the right accessories and clothing to avoid drawing attention to your chin. Avoid wearing long earrings, chokers or scarves, as they will only attract more attention to the problem area. Instead, wear small earrings or studs and long necklaces. Scarves should not be worn wrapped around your neck but should instead hang loosely away from your neck. Choose tops that have deep V-shaped necks or will elongate the neckline. Avoid crew or boat-neck-style tops.
