Hot Dog
The party is over, the grill is cold and a few hot dogs are left. You can use those last frankfurters instead of letting them go to waste. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Serve up a quick lunch of Beanie Weanies. Slice 1 or 2 hot dogs into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick pieces. Mix in pan with can of pork and beans plus 1/2 cup ketchup and dash of garlic powder. Simmer until beans are bubbling slightly. Let stand for 2 minutes for beans to heat through. Serve in soup bowls or cereal bowls. Sprinkle with grated cheese and chopped onions if desired.
2. Mix up a doggone good macaroni and cheese. Fix one package macaroni and cheese according to directions. Slice 1 or 2 hot dogs into thin pieces. Fry hot dogs in a small amount of cooking oil over medium heat until lightly brown and starting to crisp at edges. Dump the macaroni and cheese into a serving or casserole dish. Mix hot dog slices into prepared macaroni and cheese or sprinkle on top. Serve hot.
3. Make little dogs out of big ones. Cut frankfurter in half making two small hot dogs. Slice lengthwise halfway through the small hot dogs. Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes until hot. Stuff with cheese and serve to kids as finger food with French fries and long green beans.
4. Fry thin-sliced hot dogs and serve them up as a side dish. Cook the slices in garlic olive oil, barbecue or steak sauce. Serve at breakfast with scrambled eggs and hash browns. Use them at lunch with potato salad and applesauce. These slices are great with scalloped potatoes and apple cobbler.
5. Reward your dog with hot doggie training treats. Cut leftover hot dogs into small cubes. These can be messy so carry them in a plastic bag or treat box. For a dry and crispy pocket treat, slice the hot dog very thin and microwave between paper towels for 1 to 3 minutes depending on the slice thickness. For small dogs, cut the hot dog slices into quarters.
6. Use hot dogs as you would any variety meat. As long as you have kids, dogs and imagination your hot dogs will be gone the second time around.
