Quick Dessert Ideas

Fruit salad is a quick and healthy dessert.


Recipes that incorporate few ingredients and do not require any baking time allow you to have a sweet, post-dinner snack without spending hours in the kitchen preparing it. Many of these recipes call for fruit or ice cream and can be adjusted to incorporate your favorite flavor whether it's chocolate, strawberry, vanilla or caramel. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Banana Split Sundae


Peel and slice a banana down the center and place on either side of a long dish. Place three scoops of vanilla or chocolate ice cream between the bananas. Top each scoop with either chocolate sauce, pureed strawberries, raspberry sauce, crushed pineapple, caramel or another topping of choice. Place a spoonful of whipped topping on top of each scoop and finish with a maraschino cherry.


Fruit Salad


Fruit salad is a simple, healthy dessert that is best made with fresh fruit. Combine a variety of sliced fruits in a bowl and serve or refrigerate for the following day. Common ingredients found in fruit salad include grapes, strawberries, pineapple, raspberries, apples, bananas, oranges and melon balls. For some additional flavoring, add whipped topping, vanilla yogurt, chocolate pudding or granola crumble as a topping.


Chocolate Fondue


Combine 16 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate with 1.5 cups of light cream and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir over low heat until the mixture is melted. Pour into a chocolate fondue set and light the candle to keep it warm. Slice up your favorite fresh fruits, nuts or breads and use fondue forks to dip the pieces into the warm chocolate.


Basic Strawberry Shortcake


This dessert only takes a moment to assemble. Place a ready-made shortcake on a plate. Cover it with either fresh, sliced strawberries or canned strawberry topping. Add a dollop of whipped topping and serve. Frozen strawberries can be substituted for fresh.


Cookies and Ice Cream


Add some crunch to your ice cream with packaged cookies. The combinations are only limited by your imagination and your taste buds. Chocolate lovers might consider topping chocolate ice cream with chocolate chip cookies crumbled on top. For a fruitier dessert, combine strawberry wafer cookies with vanilla ice cream.
