Save money with homemade chicken food.
Many homeowners are choosing to keep chickens in their own backyard coops. The chickens are either kept for the purpose of collecting eggs as food for the family or even as pets. These novice chicken owners also learn quickly that feeding these chickens is an expensive venture. A cheaper, healthy alternative is to provide the chickens with homemade chicken feed. The feed contains all of the nutrients required for the chickens to remain able-bodied and happy.
Instructions
1. Clean out a 50-gallon pail with soapy water. Rinse out the bucket well to remove any remaining soapy residue.
2. Pour 5 lbs. millet, 3 lbs. soft white wheat, 5 lbs. oat groats and 5 lbs. peanut chunks into the pail.
3. Add 10 to 12 lbs. dehulled sunflower seed kernels to the bucket.
4. Pour 1 lb. food-grade diatomaceous earth, 2 lbs. wheat bran and 2 lbs. dried kelp.
5. Add 1 lb. dried split peas, 1 lb. lentils and 1/2 lb. kelp to the pail.
6. Stir the ingredients together well with your hands to ensure the chickens receive all of the ingredients in each sitting.
