Make Pillows With Buckwheat Groats

Buckwheat groat pillows don't flatten during the night.

If a good night's sleep is important to you, experiment with a buckwheat groats pillow. Hulls from the buckwheat groat, or seed, are commonly used in pillows to aid in a restful night's sleep. The maneuverability of the buckwheat in the pillow allows you to adjust your head and neck in the best position to align and support your spine. The buckwheat also absorbs perspiration and heat to allow for comfortable slumber. Make your own buckwheat groat pillow and get a good night's sleep tonight.

Instructions

1. Buy organic hulls from a domestic source. They are available online and at some health food grocery stores. Begin by purchasing 7 pounds. More hulls can be added if you decide you need more support.

2. Add the buckwheat hulls to the zippered pillowcase liner. Lay your head on the pillow in a side-sleeping position to see if the amount of hulls is adequate. If your neck is neutral and in alignment with the rest of your spine, the pillow is filled properly. If your neck curves up, open the case and remove hulls one cup at a time until your neck is in the right position. If your neck is too low, add additional hulls.

3. Put the zippered liner in a pillowcase with the zippered side in first. This will prevent the zipper from coming in contact with your face.
