A countertop oven makes perfect roast turkey.
Countertop ovens, or roaster ovens as they are more commonly known, can be the cook's best friend when it comes to the Thanksgiving turkey. The 18 quart or larger roasters allow you to cook up to a 20 pound turkey, leaving your oven free to cook other dishes for the traditional family-day feast. Countertop ovens cook food in the same way as a standard oven and cooking instructions are basically the same. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Preheat the countertop oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit following the manufacturer's instructions. This is generally simply plugging the appliance into an outlet and turning the temperature control to 350.
2. Fill the cavities of the turkey with prepared stuffing, if desired.
3. Place the turkey on the meat rack that came with your roaster.
4. Place the rack into the cooking well of the countertop oven. Replace the cover on the roaster.
5. Roast the turkey for 15 to 20 minutes per pound, basting the turkey every hour. Insert a meat thermometer into the turkey at the thickest portion of the thigh. The thermometer should read no less than 165 degrees Fahrenheit for the turkey to be fully cooked.
6. Add 30 to 40 minutes extra to the total cooking time if you stuffed the turkey.
